Half-Day Mokoro Experience

No trip to the Okavango Delta is complete without experiencing this UNESCO World Heritage Site from a mokoro. For many people living in the Delta, traveling by Mokoro is part of their daily life. These traditional canoes are propelled by talented and agile guides who stand in the stern and pole the mokoro with a Ngashe. Gliding silently on the clear waters you can find tiny reed frogs, picturesque waterlilies, varied birdlife, and enjoy wildlife sightings from a water-level perspective. The polers will share their local heritage and in-depth knowledge of the area and its flora and fauna. A mokoro is a unique adventure that allows you to explore areas of the Okavango Delta that are otherwise inaccessible.

Departing from Maun for a morning or afternoon Mokoro Experience, you will be transferred by road to the mokoro station. Here you will be introduced to your poler who will be guiding you through the Okavango’s flooded channels. After a short introduction and briefing, you will head out on your 3-hour mokoro adventure exploring the Delta. The experience will end back at the mokoro station where your vehicle and guide will be waiting to transfer you back to Maun. A half-day Mokoro Experience is ideal for those who do not have much time in Maun.
