About the Okavango Panhandle Heliport
Explore Maun travel agency launched a new venture in 2022, the Okavango Panhandle Heliport. Located in northern Botswana, the Heliport is only 70km south of the Mohembo border post, en route to Namibia’s Caprivi Strip. Conveniently situated just off the main road the Heliport is the ideal launchpad for your panhandle adventure.
The Panhandles mighty river system stretches between 70-100km in length. It carries the rainfall run-off from the Angolan highlands into the main watercourse that feeds Okavango Delta. The Panhandle region is renowned for its classic Okavango scenery, with deep blue river channels lined by tall, dense papyrus reed beds dispersed with beautiful, lush islands. Meanwhile, just 35 km from the Panhandle lie the Tsodilo Hills, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, home to over 4500 ancient rock paintings.
The Panhandle is home to a range of luxury lodges and tented camps, delivering a quintessential Okavango experience. There is a helicopter permanently based at the Heliport, allowing you the opportunity to experience the beauty and exclusivity of this area, which is inaccessible by road. There are secure parking facilities at the Heliport where you can leave your vehicle whilst you go on your panhandle adventure.
The Heliport is operated by Helicopter Horizons, an experiential helicopter company who have been flying in the Delta for over 18 – years. They specialize in helicopter experiences for every traveller to the Okavango Delta, Makgadikgadi Pans and the Kalahari Desert. The highly experienced Helicopter Horizons pilots from around the world, are passionate about sharing their love for the region with each guest on board.
