Description

Helicopter and Mokoro Adventure

A low altitude doors off helicopter flight over the complex network of channels, lagoons and islands of the south-western Okavango Delta takes you to a remote mokoro station deep in the Delta.

A mokoro is a traditional canoe propelled through the shallow waters of the Delta by talented and agile guides standing in the stern and pushing with a Ngashe (pole). This experience combines breath-taking aerial views with close-up experiences of the shallow floodplains and reed beds surrounding the deep channels and open lagoons. Mokoro trips offer an almost silent glide through flooded vegetation, where you can find tiny reed frogs, picturesque waterlilies and various waterbirds, with the opportunity to look up at wildlife on the banks of the channel. Your experienced poler from the local community will share stories, folk tales, and first-hand knowledge of the area’s wildlife as he poles along the unspoiled waterways. A lifetime of experience means that polers make steering and propelling the mokoro seem effortless.

Before lifting off for your return journey to Maun your pilot will serve tea and coffee that you can enjoy in the serenity of the Okavango.
